PT Hatfield Indonesia

PT Hatfield Indonesia is a pioneer in the field of environmental services in Indonesia, providing a strong local presence and a team of local and international multi-disciplinary specialists built up over more than 27 years of regional experience. Hatfield has an excellent understanding of forest monitoring policies and development in Indonesia, particularly REDD+ MRV programs, having previously conducted project work for the UN-REDD / REDD+ Task Force and Ministry of Forestry (now Ministry of Environment and Forestry).

Hatfield Indonesia provides comprehensive services in forestry to support management of natural and planted forests and land rehabilitation to the private sector, non-governmental organizations and international agencies throughout Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia. Drawing on our experience and knowledge in forestry, ecology, environmental sciences and socio-economic assessment, we develop effective and cost-efficient solutions to address a wide range of forest management challenges. We complement our traditional services with a range of Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing products and services. Customized applications can be created to support decision making related to land use change, flood monitoring and wetland management.  

Hatfield Indonesia also has extensive experience in managing and implementing projects at any scale, and also manages good relationship and network with various institutions. We collaborate with local companies and universities to ensure local expertise is used, and consult with local communities and governments to ensure optimal project outcomes. Using participatory processes, including focus groups, workshops and interviews, we ensure that stakeholder input is incorporated throughout project design, development and implementation. Sustainability is promoted through capacity development and awareness rising and outreach programs. Hatfield Indonesia has implemented a number of communication programs to communicate project results to a wide variety of stakeholders. Programs have included designing and developing multi-media tools, project websites and outreach materials and publications.

Hatfield’s role in Forests2020 is to assist the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to identify critical steps in the national forest survey; processes target for improvement, as well as lead the other organizations during the implementation of the project.

Dr. Andy Dean
PT Hatfield Indonesia
Dr. Andy Dean is a remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), and data and information management specialist with 15 years of consulting and research experience in North America, Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. Dr. Dean works with companies, government agencies, international organizations and development banks, and civil society organizations to support environmental monitoring and management in various sectors. He is also experienced in the development of remote sensing applications that integrate optical and radar data, particularly river and lake monitoring, flood mapping, forest monitoring, and wetland classification. Dr. Dean has managed projects for the Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency, and World Bank, as well as being contracted by United Nations (UN) agencies, such as the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the UN. Dr. Dean has proven project management experience, including budgeting, scheduling, sub-contract management, and results based management (RBM) reporting.

His role in Forests2020 is to provide senior review and advice on the reports and project outcomes, as well as oversee the implementation and coordination among related parties within the project.

Agus Salim
PT Hatfield Indonesia
Agus Salim is an expert in the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for environmental management applications. He has considerable experience with all aspects of designing, implementing and managing GIS projects. He has also managed large-scale image processing projects throughout Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Brunei and Botswana. With major background in forestry, Mr. Salim has strong experience in modelling terrestrial GIS application, which is focusing on habitat type assessment for tropical zone, land cover and land change mapping and freshwater systems analysis. He has experience working will all levels of government, the private sector, research organizations, and non-governmental organizations and has a strong network within Indonesia and internationally.

His role in Forests2020 is to provide senior review and advise on the reports and project output and outcomes, as well as oversee the project implementation in Indonesia.

Rina Wulandari
PT Hatfield Indonesia
Rina Wulandari is an expert in the application of satellite imagery for environmental monitoring and mapping purposes with more than 10 years of experience. She has extensive experience in project design and management and experienced working with various sectors and institutions, both private and government institutions. In addition to remote sensing, Rina is a geographical information systems (GIS) expert, provides support to Hatfield’s regular training courses, customized GIS application, including land change modeler, and web GIS application both for private and public sector. She has been involved in several projects including tsunami disaster relief in Aceh, Environmental Impact Assessments, Development of Land Monitoring System, Near Real Time Monitoring System, and Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) projects in several provinces.

Her role in Forests2020 is to coordinate the implementation the project in Indonesia, including liaison with related stakeholders, communication between Indonesia and UK partners, between Indonesia partners, as well as managing the networking among related parties and institutions throughout the project.
